2019 APA President-Elect Candidate Statement - Robert H. Woody

To: The Society for the Psychology of Women
From: Robert H. Woody, PhD, ScD, JD
Diplomate in Clinical and Forensic Psychology, ABPP

I will appreciate the endorsement of D35 for my candidacy for APA President. Based on years of service in APA governance (e.g., D12 Treasurer, Council of Representatives for D12 and D42, Ethics Committee, and other roles), I am prepared to advocate the objectives of D35. My academic background in education/psychology (PhD, Michigan State), Public Health Practice (ScD, Pittsburg), and law (Creighton, JD; Florida, Michigan, and Nebraska Bars) will enhance my efforts. Moreover, since 1975, I have been a Professor Psychology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, teaching clinical assessment, and psychological interventions (including family and marriage therapy), and forensic and law and psychology.

Throughout my career, I have published extensively (e.g., thirty-eight books and many articles) that have established my commitment to and expertise for multicultural, diversity and social justice issues. Certainly I have advocated values that are consonant with feminist psychology.

I believe that APA must accept that gender identity does not accommodate bias and discrimination.  There should be allegiance to diversity and multicultural equality that will strengthen organizational advocacy of human values that will further positive results for all persons. Ethics and laws must firmly support that there will be no equivocation on equality. Additional information is available at BobWoodyHelpsPsychology.com
